Every price on this page was read off the vendor's own pricing page on the date shown. Not from a comparison site, not from a press release, not from another blog.

That sounds like a low bar. It isn't. AI pricing moves constantly, most tool roundups are quoting numbers from last year, and vendors have got good at showing you a monthly-looking figure that's actually the annual rate. Where that happens below, it's flagged.

The useful column isn't the headline price — it's what the free tier actually gives you before it stops being useful.

Type in a technical topic, get back a narrated animated lecture video of roughly 13 to 22 minutes. An LLM writes the lecture as source code and a compiler renders it with animation and text-to-speech.

Worth knowing: one generation a month is the entire free allowance, and generation takes about 25 minutes. There's no trial burst — you get one shot, then you wait a month. No affiliate program exists: the footer has no Affiliates or Partners link and the tool doesn't appear in the PartnerStack, Impact, Rewardful or FirstPromoter directories.

Worth knowing: the free tier has no commercial licence. Anything you make on it can't legally be monetised, and the plan comparison confirms commercial use starts at Starter. Extra minutes cost about $0.36 on Free against roughly $0.17 on the upper tiers, so the cheap plan has the most expensive overage. Annual billing is two months free.

Read the billing toggle carefully. The page served those figures alongside "saves $24 by billing yearly" on Pro and "$72" on Premier, against an advertised 20% annual discount. That arithmetic only works if $8 and $24 are the annual monthly-equivalents and the true monthly rates are about $10 and $30. Treat the monthly numbers as inferred from the discount maths, not read off the page.

Also worth knowing: the free tier lets you generate but not download, which makes it a demo rather than a usable tier. Subscription credits don't roll over.

Napkin AI

Worth knowing: credits run at roughly one per word selected for generation, which makes 500/week easier to spend than it sounds. This is the most genuinely usable free tier here — unlimited PNG and PDF export with no watermark on the file itself, only Napkin branding on the visual. Annual billing saves 25%.

Worth knowing: the two figures per tier are annual-equivalent and true monthly, in that order — the page's own checkout links carry selected_interval=year on the lower number. The free tier's 100 AI credits are a one-time grant, not a monthly refill, so the AI features are effectively a trial rather than a free tier. Free exports are watermarked and capped at 720p.

Descript does run an affiliate program, linked from its own footer. It's the only tool on this page where one was found.

How this page is put together

Each entry is read directly off the vendor's pricing page, and the date is when that happened. Where a page's numbers depend on a billing toggle, the toggle state is stated.

Two tools were dropped rather than guessed: Gamma and Recraft both render their plan prices in the browser rather than in the page itself, so the figures couldn't be read from the source. They'll go up when there's a reliable way to check them.

Prices change without notice. If something here is out of date, the date on the entry tells you how stale it is — and telling me is welcome.
